3rd January 2007

Let's start the new year with good news from Pat Niyomsilp (OS): he has graduated as a lawyer. Pat walked upon many mountains with the school including what he describes as "our great trip to Ben Lui and Ben Nevis" in Scotland , Easter 2000. Here is Pat looking rather splendid on his graduation day.

Today is Field Day and all Basic Year lads have been walking Welsh hills. Warm autumnal sunshine made this a perfect day for exploring the small range at the northern end of lake Bala. The thirty-five boys and eight staff involved all gained the highest peak in the range: 2000ft Foel Goch. More than that, a entire day spent trying to match up map with terrain means several boys are well on the way to becoming skilled navigators. Twenty boys today earned their Basic Year BRONZE.

The entire school took to the Shropshire hills today. Each of our seven hundred boys walked 20 miles for charity. Staff not on checkpoints also completed the walk including (photo 4) the Headmaster.

Group 4 have been rock climbing in the quarry at Llanymynech situated around 45 miles to the west of Shrewsbury. Each of the Basic Year groups will have a turn to visit this stunning location and scale the man made cliffs under the watchful eyes of instructor Stewart Wellings.

14th September 2006

Our first walk of the new academic year is to the Stapely Common area, near Church Stoke, about 40 miles south of Shrewsbury. The object of the afternoon was to practice navigation using map and compass. Thick clouds and mist on the high ground got the year off to a perfect start.
